On November 7th, Read Write Spell will host our biennial Rise & Read fundraiser and An Evening for Educators community discussion. This year’s keynote speaker is Emily Hanford. Emily Hanford is an award-winning journalist who helped spark a national movement to bring the science of reading to schools with her groundbreaking podcast episode, Hard Words: Why Aren’t Our Kids Being Taught to Read? Emily has traveled the country speaking with educators, caregivers, families, and other stakeholders about literacy instruction, and she will share some of those insights with us.

Your investment in Read Write Spell will support the following:
- Free one-to-one tutoring for struggling readers in WS/FCS during the school day and after school.
- Free training and resources to equip parents of young children with the tools to support their oral language and literacy development.
- Professional development for early childhood educators to ensure they can provide developmentally appropriate and effective instruction.
- Raising public awareness about children’s literacy in Forsyth County and educating the community on how to work together to make a difference for children.
