January 7 @ 8:30 am - 2:30 pm
An event every day that begins at 8:30 am, repeating until January 10, 2020
Our Augustine Literacy Project® program trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free, one-to-one
instruction in reading, writing and spelling to low-income children. Tutors receive training in a systematic, multi-
sensory, phone(c approach to reading and written language and will prepare and deliver 4 practice lessons with
the guidance of an experienced tutor/coach.
An Augustine tutor agrees to meet with her/his student for 45-60 minutes twice weekly, usually during the
school day for at least 60 lessons. Tutors meet monthly to add to their knowledge and skills, exchange ideas, and offer support. All on-going support and training sessions are included in the initial training fee.
The cost of the initial training is $250 for those who agree to tutor a qualified Augustine student for 60+
sessions. This fee covers the cost of materials that become the property of the trainee, 5-day (40 hour) training
with pre-course assignments, mentoring, and a background check required by the Episcopal Diocese of North
Carolina. Scholarship funds are available to qualified candidates. If you wish to participate in the training,
complete this form and return to our office.
