February 8 @ 8:30 am - 4:30 pm$50
The Opening the World of Literacy (OWL) program trains and supports volunteer tutors who provide free, oneto-one/small group instruction in phonological and phonemic awareness (the building blocks of reading) to
Kindergarten students in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WSFCS) identified as needing additional
support with early literacy skills.
An OWL tutor completes a 3-day training in phonological and phonemic awareness and agrees to tutor twice a
week during the school day for 45 lessons. The cost of the training is $50. This fee covers the cost of the training, materials, mentoring, and a background check required by the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina. If you are interested in becoming an OWL tutor, please complete both sides of this form and return to the address listed at the bottom of the form.
