Becoming a Volunteer Tutor
An unprecedented number of children need help with literacy. The schools cannot do it alone. You can help elementary school children recover from the time away from critical in-person literacy instruction. We will train and support you and give you and your student the tools necessary for success.

YOU can help teach a child to read.
Literacy is a basic human right, essential for individual and community success. Sadly, only 48% of 3rd-grade students in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools (WS/FCS) are proficient in reading. When schools return to normal, children will need us more than ever before.
Read Write Spell trains volunteer tutors to provide free, one-to-one, reading instruction to WS/FCS students who struggle with literacy. Our approach is rooted in the science of reading and is scientifically proven to be more effective, for more children, than traditional literacy instruction.
