Volunteer to be a reading tutor

1 & Up ALP

The 1st & Up ALP program is a structured, multisensory, phonetic teaching approach that has been proven to work with WS/FCS students who have language-related learning difficulties. This program focuses on the five essential components of research-based reading instruction as defined by the National Reading Panel:  phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension.

I love being able to teach a child the rules of the English language so that they can improve their reading and spelling. I’ve worked with four students ranging in age from 3rd grade through high school, and every one of them wanted to become a better reader. Knowing that I am helping a child reach their potential is the best reward.
